Women Who Reign: Grisell Torres
“The future belongs to those that believe in the beauty of their dreams” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
Tell us about yourself along with a fun fact!
My name is Grisell Torres, although I have a variety of nicknames like Gray or Grissy. I’m currently working to complete my BSBA in Computerized Information Systems and a minor in English Writing and Communication at University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. I also work as President of the Association for Computer Machinery — Women’s Chapter (ACM-W).
Fun fact #1: I often spent my time writing original novels to relax. I post them on a site called Wattpad under the name GrissyQuinn, so that other may enjoy the pleasures of reading as I do.
Fun fact #2: Im a complete book worm.

Favorite website / app:
I mostly spend my time in Facebook & Wattpad.
For those who don’t know, Wattpad is a platform for aspiring writers like myself. In it, writers can publish their original works without the fear of it being copied, since its all protected. I love to spend my time there both publishing my own works and reading/supporting the works of others.
Someone who inspires you and knowledge they have imparted:
Someone that inspires me would be Lin Manuel Miranda. Most people would choose a family member or close friend as a source of inspiration, and my family has been as supportive as they can be with my dreams. However, Lin Manuel Miranda spends every day publishing inspiring things in his social media with the purpose of inspiring his fans and everyone he can to be the very best versions of themselves. He worked hard to achieve his dream and came to write one of the most amazing broadway musicals in the world (Hamilton). He loves to support charities that help all kinds of people who are less fortunate and is even bringing Hamilton to Puerto Rico, using Puertorican actors to give them a chance to live out their dreams. He is even giving all profit gained from the shows to Puertorican post-hurricane Maria recovery funds.
Simply, Lin Manuel Miranda is a man who works so hard to achieve his dreams and then uses his success to help others. He is an inspiration in every way for me.
Song that makes you want to dance:
“Whole Lotta Woman” by Kelly Clarkson
Challenge you’ve faced and how you overcame it:
When I was 5 years old, I had an accident that caused me to lose sight of my left eye completely. The only reason I consider this a challenge is because I had to adjust to a small limitation and doing some things a bit differently than everyone else. I also had to grow up with people telling me I couldn’t do things, that things I wanted to do were out of my reach. That experience can be hard on your self esteem.
However, it did teach me one very important thing: You are your own obstacle in life. No one can tell you what you can or can’t do except yourself.
Ideal Job:
My ideal job is one that I can be a leader. I dream with being a CEO or an IT Project Manager.
All my life, many people in my life have described me as a natural leader. That when push comes to shove, I can make tough decisions that go for the best outcome or at least the one with the least amount of damage to the goal.
I love the idea of being a business woman and leader that pushes my employees towards success, because their success would be my own.
Fun fact #3: I would also love to be a published author on the side. To have my original works published, would be a dream come true.
What knowledge would you impart to women in order for them to REIGN their lives?
There is honestly only one thing, I can truly say.

In life, there are always going to be people who will tell you that you can’t achieve your dreams. They will find the smallest of reasons to make you feel you can’t do anything. For a moment, you will believe them. Don’t let them keep you from following your dreams. You will find obstacles and hardships along the way, but you have to work hard to be who you want to be and never give up.
Dreams gives us hope. They give us a reason to keep going when things seem too hard. They let us know that one day every sacrifice we make will be worth it because we will finally be living our dreams.
